'Vintage Wednesday'

This post is overdue by a whole week because our 'Vintage Wednesday' was actually last week...my bad. At college we are working towards our end of year showcase that will take the audience on a journey through the history of war, from WW1 right through to modern warfare. It's sensitive, touching, light hearted at times and going to be fab!

As part of our research towards the piece (a bit of last minute fundraising) we had a 'Vintage Wednesday'. A Wednesday where we paid homage to all things vintage!

I woke up that morning, put my victory rolls in, my hair up in a scarf and put my wellies on to complete my 1940s Land Girl costume. We had a fab day and everyone took part. I love the idea of a 'Vintage Wednesday' so much that I may make it a regular (*cough*) feature.

What are your thoughts on a 'Vintage Wednesday'?

For a first try at a victory roll, it's not that bad. I'll be showing you how to achieve this in your hair soon so keep an eye out for that post!

The Diary of a Fake Tan Virgin

I am aware that I have been missing for just over a week and for this I apologise! However, I am back now so it's all okay.

The last week has been a majorly busy one, I'm not going to lie: I've been poorly and completely lost my voice, I've been working hard towards my end of year showcase at college (it's very exciting but very stressful), spending all of my money buying costumes and running my best friend around. But I think that the most exciting is the preparations for my brother's wedding!!

For those who don't know, my older brother Dave is marrying the beautiful Susie and I get to be bridesmaid! Get in! This means finding bridesmaids dresses (we're on third time lucky), deciding on shoes, hair and make up etc...and finding what I'm going to sing as Susie walks down the aisle- the pressure to get this right is intense.

As part of my bridesmaid preparations I decided that I should probably do a dummy run of my tan! This is very important if I don't want to look orange and patchy. So, I found a good fake tan product that I had seen recommended by various bloggers and youtubers (I've been allergic to gradual tanning creams that I've tried in the past so had to be really careful), exfoliated, moisturised and finally lost my fake tan virginity.
Yes, I hear you say that gradual tan is technically fake tanning, but it's no where near as risky as using a proper instant tan product.

I'm glad to say that it didn't go too badly, yes I seemed to have missed a bit on my arm, and only seemed to have done one leg but I was very happy with the colour and the finish of it overall!  I felt very lucky to not have finished with orange tan stained hands (I used a fake tan applicator mitt that I bought on the high street), however my hands went the other way. Instead of getting tan stuck between each of my fingers, I missed them altogether. You might be able to see in the picture that I've put up that my fingers are tanned but I am still milky white in between. Oopsie. Well I guess it's only a dummy run and not terrible for a total novice?

It's really not a great photo of my chubby little hand, but you see where I'm coming from!

How have your fake tan attempts been? What's the worst that you've ever managed?

Lots of love x

For Those having a Rubbish Day

As you can tell, I dropped my powder. Fair enough it was on its last legs but it totally put a downer on my day. It ended up all over the floor, and is now unusable. I will just have to deal with the 'dewy' look for a few days. So this is a little post to reassure you that when you are having a really rubbish day then YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

Something about small packages...

There's something truly gorgeous about beauty minis. This is a little Benefit set that I had bought for me by my boyfriend as we've just celebrated one whole year together (obviously he knows me very well). It's super cute so I just had to share it with you. Yeah, it's only a mascara, cheek tint and primer but it was a lovely little gesture and made me very happy.

The Mystery of the Soap Mouse

Let me tell you about the Biscuit Mouse...
The 'Biscuit Mouse' used to eat all of the biscuits from the biscuit barrel. I realise that there were a lot of biscuits in that sentence. When biscuits went missing, we used to put it down to the mouse. As you have probably guessed, the Biscuit Mouse was me. I was a chubby child.

The issue now is that my soap keeps going missing from the bathroom. I use my soap and as soon as it gets to a certain size, it disappears without a trace! No one in the house seems to know where the soap goes, and everyone denies throwing it away themselves. My conclusion- WE HAVE A SOAP MOUSE!! However this leaves me with a very big problem, the 'Soap Mouse' is not me...so who is it? And just wait until I get my hands on whoever it is.

My Lush Empties...

(Volcano foot mask, Imperialis face moisturiser, Sweetie Pie shower jelly, Catastrophe Cosmetic face mask, Turkish Delight shower smoothie, Brazened Honey face mask, Angels On Bare Skin face and body cleanser)

When it comes to Lush, I'm a bit of an addict! I'm slowly working my way through every product that they sell, so I thought I would share with you my current empty pots which are sat on my desk. There is not one of these products that I wouldn't recommend really. My favourites have got to be the Turkish Delight, the creamy shower smoothie which leaves you clean, moisturised and smelling amazing; Angels On Bare Skin cleanser, which I use daily to keep my face feeling really clean and bright; and Imperialis face moisturiser, which you can tell has been very well loved, I've never found a moisturiser that made my complexion as bright and radiant as that one did, it's now a very firm favourite and repeat purchase.

Remember that you can take your pots back into a Lush store and exchange them for a fresh face mask. 5 black pots= 1 free fresh face mask, that sounds pretty good to me.

Once You Go Ginger, There’s No Going Back

It was only a few days ago that I realised just how many different colours my hair has been. Compared to many people it might not seem that much, but I had just never realised before. Naturally my hair is a mousey dirty blonde colour, but I’ve been red, purple, dark brown, light brown, red again, lighter red and then ginger. And when I say ginger, I mean full on ‘you need sunglasses carrot top’ ginger.
At the time it was a great idea, it was different and a bit quirky and I’m not going to lie I really liked it. I’d always wanted hair like Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge, and I was finally getting close to that goal. It didn’t take long before I got really bored of it though.  At the end of the day, you can’t be a wallflower when you’ve got incredibly bright hair. So what do you do? Dye your hair a different colour of course! But, would my hair change...nope.
I’ve dyed it, let it fade, let it grow out (my roots grew out so much it looked like a dip dye gone wrong), dyed it again and all to no prevail. I’m now attempting to explore the theory ‘Blondes have more fun’, except whenever I bump into someone who hasn’t seen me post-ginger, the response I get is ‘Strawberry blonde really suits you’. But I don’t want to be ‘strawberry blonde’; I want to be ‘blonde bombshell’!
It seems that my ginger nut tendencies just won’t go away, I’ve dyed my hair three times, every time blonder and blonder and all I seem to achieve is a different shade of ‘strawberry blonde’. I have found some solace in the Daddy O shampoo from Lush, which admittedly makes me look less brassy (as you can see in the picture below) but there’s still red creeping through. I’m at a loss for what to do without bleaching my hair, which would quite frankly probably kill it. Shall I be stuck with my orange whim forever?
I tell you, the trials and tribulations of hair colour...
